General Artist Statement

My artwork is a mix of all mediums I learned and experimented with while studying at Auburn. I chose painting as my concentration, but am still very passionate about woodwork and ceramics. Painting for me is very meditative, requiring little body strength and more mental focus. My wooden pieces and ceramics works take more physical labor. I am drawn to all three of these mediums because of the different ways they affect me physically and mentally. These three-dimensional works require so many tools and much more physical strength. By the end of the day I am exhausted after throwing on the wheel or carving a piece of wood. Painting on the other hand challenges me in a less physical way but more in a mentally challenging way. For me, it is very important to keep challenging both mind and body. My family has a history of memory problems, so these artworks are more than just a mental challenge and workout. They are a way to create a long-lasting memory through the artwork. As well as exploring the mind to see where I can strengthen it both in the present and long term. Having these different ways to think and work allows me the opportunity to create a wider range of artworks that are influenced by one another.
